A couple who developed a shared desire to murder met in early 2017 at a psychiatric clinic in Groß-Umstadt and later fell in love. Perhaps it was fate that brought 38-year-old Jana F. and Denny M., who is 10 years her junior, together there. Denny M. was being treated at the clinic for schizophrenia, while Jana F. was there to combat her depression and alcohol addiction. The two became lovers. However, as relationships between patients were not permitted, they had to leave the clinic. From then on, the unemployed couple lived together, their favorite hobby being watching horror movies and the internet series “Killer Couples.” Since then, the couple’s desire to become partners in crime grew. Jana F., who had low self-esteem, especially wanted to finally receive the attention that serial killers at least got. Her dream was to become as popular as the legendary criminal duo Bonnie and Clyde. So she and Denny hatched a plan to murder her mother’s 81-year-old acquaintance. In March 2017, they visited her in her apartment, where they stabbed the defenseless pensioner a total of 11 times. The killer couple then fled, only to return to the scene of the crime the very next day because Jana F.’s mother lived in the same building. Shortly afterwards, the couple fled via France to Spain. Their destination was Africa, where they could not be extradited, as they had previously googled. But after only one week on the run, they were arrested in the Spanish port city of Algeciras and extradited to Germany. While both were in pretrial detention, the killer couple wrote passionate love letters to each other, which resulted in Denny initially taking all the blame. But he soon realized Jana’s deception and confirmed her complicity. In the meantime, the Dieburg District Court issued an arrest warrant for Jana F., who allegedly murdered a patient in Switzerland in 2006 with an overdose of insulin. The killer couple was sentenced to life imprisonment by the Darmstadt Regional Court for the murder of the pensioner, who had to die just for a little fame.
